  13살 뚱보 소년 모리스 젠트리는 노토리어스 비아이지(Notorious B.I.G)와 같은 유명 힙합가수가 되는 것이 꿈이다. 낯선 도시 독일 하이델부르크에 이사 온 모리스는 사춘기가 되면서 차츰 자의식이 커져간다. 하지만 이 도시엔 자신과 생김도, 행동 방식도 다른 사람들뿐이다. 엄마 없이 홀로 모리스를 키우는 아빠 커티스는 모리스와 함께 음악에 대한 열정을 나누는 친구 같은 존재이다. 낯선 도시에서 모리스의 친구는 아빠를 빼고는 순진한 구석이 닮은 독일어 가정교사 잉카밖에 없다. 어느 날, 청소년 센터의 여름학교에 억지로 참가하게 된 모리스는 15살 소녀 카트린과 사랑에 빠지게 된다. 반항적이고 냉정한 카트린은 모리스뿐만 아니라 다른 아이들에게도 관심이 없다. 카트린을 좋아하지만 그 마음을 숨긴 채 모리스는 카트린과 우정을 쌓아간다. 한편 커티스는 사춘기에 접어들어 자신과 점점 멀어지는 아들의 변화에 적응하느라 힘든 시간을 보낸다. 주변 사람들과의 변화하는 관계 속에서 모리스는 좁고 편안한 세계에서 벗어나 새롭고 낯선 세상으로 나아가 자신감과 소속감을 찾기 위한 모험의 여정을 시작한다.

  self-conscious, and new to living in Heidelberg, Germany, where nobody else looks or acts like him. His single father Curtis is better at relating to Morris as a friend than a father, bonding with his son over their shared love of music. Initially, Morris only interacts with Curtis and Inka, his kind - if naïve - German language tutor, but when forced to attend summer classes at a youth center, he instantly falls in love. 15-year-old Katrin is just the girl for Morris: rebellious, cool as ice, and not as indifferent toward him as the other kids. As the two begin to develop a slow friendship (albeit one that Morris hopes will be the start of something deeper), Morris drifts further from Curtis, who is having a hard time of his own adjusting to his son’s burgeoning adolescence. In the wake of these changing relationships, Morris risks everything in a journey far outside of his comfort zone toward self-confidence and acceptance in this new, foreign environment.
