  중국 학생들은 공부를 잘해야 한다는 엄청난 압박 속에 살고 있다. 바왕이라는 학생이 다니는 마을 학교에서는 쉬는 시간에도 교과서를 외우고 암송을 해야 한다. 곧 전국시험이 치뤄질 것이고, 교장 선생님은 이 학교 학생들이 전국 단위에서 꽤 높은 점수를 받기 원하기 때문. 하지만 바왕은 이런 노력들에 전혀 신경 쓰지 않는다. 그는 장난꾸러기에 모든 것을 대수롭지 않게 여기며, 열심히 공부하기 보다는 장난이나 치며 돌아다니기를 좋아한다. 바왕의 부모님과 선생님은 그의 이런 태도와 나쁜 성적을 탐탁치 않아 한다. 그러던 중 젊은 웬 선생님이 부임을 오시게 되고, 이 말썽쟁이 녀석의 삶이 바뀌게 된다. 웬 선생님은 바왕이 창의적인 아이라고 생각하고 그 재능을 키우기 위해 그에게 확신을 심어준다. 뿐만 아니라 바왕의 용기를 북돋아 주고 책임감을 기르게 돕는다. 놀랍게도 바왕의 성적은 향상되고 심지어 상도 받게 된다. 하지만, 웬 선생님의 남자친구가 나타난 순간, 바왕은 질투에 사로잡히고, 이것은 걷잡을 수 없는 결과를 불러온다!

  
  

   

  
  

  Chinese school children are under an enormous pressure to perform well. In the small village school, where the boy Ba-wang is a student, texts are memoriesed and recited even during the breaks. Soon the major comparison test will take place and the director demands one of the best results in the country. Ba-wang does not care about all this hustle and bustle. He is a teaser, takes it easy and prefers splashing around to swotting. His parents and teachers do not like his attitude and his poor marks. But when young teacher Ms Wen comes to his school, the class clown's life changes. She sees him as a creative boy who needs assurance in order to develop his talent. She encourages him and gives him responsibility. His marks improve and he even wins an award.
