  허브 브룩(커트 러셀)은 1980년 미국 올림픽 하키팀의 다소 과격하고 결단력 있는 코치다. 브룩은 당시 천하무적인 소련팀을 꺾겠다는 불가능해 보이는 목표를 세운다. 브룩은 먼저 망나니같은 아이들을 손수 뽑아 팀을 꾸리고 기존에 했던 것과는 전혀 다른 방식으로 경기하도록 가르친다. 그렇게 불가능을 가능하게 할 수 있다고 믿는 팀으로 변모시킨다. 우레와 같은 관중의 함성에 힘입어 로켓과 같은 추진력으로 빙판 위를 달린다.

  
  

   

  
  

  Kurt ressell stars as herb brooks, the dynamic and determined coach of the 1980 USA olypic ice hocky team. brooks hads an impossible dream : to defeat the seemingly unbeatable Soviets at their own game. Starting with a handpicked group of undisciplined kids, brooks inspired them to play like they'd never played before, and transformed them into a team that believe they could achieve the unachievable.
