  인형놀이를 좋아하는 호기심 가득한 열 살의 소녀 누줌은 아버지의 강요에 의해 서른 살의 남자와 결혼을 해야만 한다. 누줌의 결혼으로 그녀의 가족은 먹을 입 하나를 줄일 수 있고, 결혼지참금은 가난한 가족의 수입이 되는 것이다. 누줌의 나이는 아랑곳하지 않는 남편과의 결혼생활은 그녀의 삶을 점점 더 피폐하게 만든다. 뙤약볕에서 쉬지 않고 일을 하고 물을 길어야 하며, 밤에는 20살이나 많은 남편의 수발을 들거나 견뎌야 했다. 결국, 누줌은 사람들의 시선에 맞서 정당하고 타당한 방법으로 자신의 존재를 증명하기로 결심한다. 누주드 알리(Nujood Ali)라는 소녀의 실화에서 시작된 이 영화는 실제로 11살의 나이에 강제로 결혼과 이혼을 겪어야 했던 감독의 또 다른 이야기이기도 하다.
  Ten-year-old Nojoom is a curious girl, who loves to play with dolls. But she is forced by her father to marry a 30-year-old man. It’s one less mouth to feed, and the dowry her family receives in return can feed her family. Nojoom’s marriage with a man who does not care about her age makes her even more exhausted. She has to work under scorching sun without a break, draw water from the well, and wait on her husband who is 20 years older than her or enduring his beating during the night. At last, Nojoom decides to stand up against the people and prove her existence in a reasonable and lawful manner. Based on the true story of Nujood Ali, this film is also the story of the director herself, who was forced into marriage and divorced at the age of 11.

  카디자 알살라미(Khadija Al-Salami)
  예멘의 최초 여성 감독이자 영화제작자. 11살에 강제로 결혼을 하게 된 뒤, 전통에 저항하여 이혼을 결심했다. 16살이 되던 해에 장학금을 받아 미국 유학길에 올랐다. 미국에서 영화제작과 연출 석사과정까지 마쳤으며, 이후 그녀가 지금까지 연출한 약 25편의 다큐멘터리는 대부분 현대 예멘의 여성과 여자아이들에 대한 이야기다. 카디자 알살라미는 프랑스 명예훈장 등 다수의 국제적인 상을 수상하였고, 2009년에는 베스트셀러가 된 『나 누주드, 열 살의 이혼녀』를 출판했고 그 이야기를 영화 <나는 열 살의 이혼녀>로 만들어 2014년 두바이국제영화제 최우수작품상을 수상했다.</br> Khadija Al-Salami, Yemen’s first female filmmaker and producer. Forced into child marriage at the age of 11, she rebelled against tribal and family values, daring to leave her husband and seek a divorce. At the age of 16, she received a grant that allowed her to follow her dreams by studying in the US where she ultimately completed a master’s dregree in film production and directing. She directed more than 25 documentaries, most of which deal with the roles of women and young girls in contemporary Yemen. She has received numerous international prizes for her work, including the French Legion of Honor. In 2009, she published the bestseller 『Nojood』 and made it into this fiction film awarded as the Best Fiction Feature at Dubai Film Festival in 2014.
