  시놉시스
  때는 1984년. 세 아이들과 함께 디야르바키르에 살고 있는 Zeynep은 형무소에 있는 남편을 방문하고 싶다. Zeynep은 모국어인 쿠르드어만을 구사한다. 하지만, 형무소에서는 오직 터키어만을 사용해야 하므로, 그 곳에서 그녀는 말 한마디조차 할 수 없다. 또한, 그녀는 남편에게 줄 새 신발을 가져가고 싶지만 그 곳에는 외부 물품 반입이 일체 금지되어 있다.

  Synopsis
  The year is 1984. Zeynep, who lives in Diyarbakır with her three children, wants to visit her husband in prison. Zeynep is only able to speak her mother tongue ‘Kurdish’; however, only the Turkish language is allowed to be spoken in prison, so she’s unable to utter a word there. On the other hand, she wants to bring a new pair of shoes to her husband but it’s forbidden to bring anything to prisoners from outside…

   

  연출 의도
  이야기의 배경인 디야르바키르 형무소는 1980년 터키 쿠데타 이후, 끔찍한 고문이 자행되고 있었던 대표적인 형무소이다. 하지만 이 영화에서 나는, 감옥 안에서 일어나는 여러 사건이나 정치범, 고문, 정치 투쟁에 관한 것을 이야기하지 않았다. 대신, 감옥 밖의 “조용한" 여인들, 그들의 작은 이야기들에게 카메라를 돌렸다. 그들은 쿠르드어를 구사하는데, 그것마저 그 당시 감옥에서는 금지되어 있었다.

  Director’s Statement
  The prison of Diyarbakir, the setting of the story, is like the symbol of the torture experienced in the prisons in Turkey after the coup d'etat of 1980. However, in this story, I did not choose to tell the things that took place in the prison, or the political prisoners or the torture, or the political fight. Instead, I turned my camera to the little stories of the "silent" women outside the prison, who could not speak another language than Kurdish, which was forbidden in the prisons of that era.

  레잔 예실바스 L. Rezan Yesilbas
  레잔 예실바스는 2008년 이스탄불의 마르마라 대학교에서 방송영상학과에서 학사 학위를 받았다. 그는 2008년 <여성 3부작>의 첫 단편 영화 <심판>을 연출했다. <심판>은 수많은 해외 영화제에 출품되어 몇몇 유수 영화제와 보스톤 영화제에서 관객상을 받았다.

  Rezan Yesilbas completed his BA in Cinema and TV Department at Istanbul, Marmara University in 2008. He currently is studying for MA in the same department.
  He wrote and directed his first short film of his in 2008. competed in various international film festivals and won awards in several national festivals and the Audience Award in Boston Film Festival.

  시놉시스
  새벽 6시, 라파는 그의 어머니가 구속되었다는 것을 알게 된다. 친구의 자전거를 타고 그는 다리를 건너 리스본 시내에 있는 경찰서에 가서 어머니를 면회하고 그녀의 석방을 기다린다. 시간은 흘러간다. 하지만 라파는 홀로 집으로 돌아가고 싶지 않다.

  Synopsis
  Six o'clock in the morning and Rafa finds out his mother is under arrest.
  On a friend's bike he crosses the bridge and goes to a police station in downtown
  Lisbon to see her and wait for her release.
  Time goes by. But Rafa doesn't want to return home alone.

  주앙 살라비자 João Salaviza
  1984년 포르투갈 리스본 출생. 리스본의 “ESTC(National Film and Theater School)”, 부에노스아이레스의 “Universidad del Cine”에서 수학했다.
  2009년 <아레나>로 칸영화제에서 단편 부문 황금종려상을 수상했다. 이 영화는 리스본 독립영화제 최고 단편상을 포함해 총 4개의 작품상을 수상했고, 50여개(트라이베카, 로테르담, 런던, 히혼, 부산, 탐페레, 앙제, 리오 데 자네이로, 상파울로 등)의 세계 유수 영화제에 참가했다.

  Born in Lisbon, 1984. Graduated at ESTC National Film and Theater School (Lisbon) and Universidad del Cine (Buenos Aires). In 2009 he won the Palme d'Or for short-films at Cannes with . The film won four other prizes including Best Short Film at IndieLisboa, and it was in more than 50 festivals. (Tribeca, Rotterdam, London, Gijón, Busan, Tampere, Angers, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, etc)

  1978년 남한의 전설적인 여배우 최은희는 홍콩에서 북한의 요원에 의해 평양으로 납치된다. 2주 후, 그녀의 전 남편이자 영화감독인 신상옥도 북한에 납치당한다. 북한에서 5년 후 이 커플은 북한으로의 망명은 자유의지였으며, 북한으로 부터의 대작을 위한 영화 제작비, 엄청난 장비와 엑스트라 지원내용과, 두 사람이 재결합했다는 사실을 포함한 “계약서”를 북한으로부터 받는다. 2년 후, 북한에서 많은 영화를 감독·제작한 이 예술가부부는 탈출에 성공했고 결국 미국의 정치적 은신처에 안착했다. 미완의 작품으로는 <고질라>와 같은 맥락으로 한국의 전설을 바탕으로 만들어진 일본식 몬스터영화 <불가사리>(1985)가 있다.

  Synopsis
  In 1978 the legendary South Korean actress CHOI Eun-hee was kidnapped in Hong Kong by North Korean agents and brought to Pyongyang. Two weeks later her ex-husband, the director SHIN Sang-ok, was abducted to North Korea as well. After spending five years in the country the couple was offered a “contract” which included a public statement declaring their willful defection to North Korea, a major film budget, enormous resources in terms of equipment and extras, and furthermore a re-marriage. Two years later the artist-pair managed to escape, after having directing and producing a number of films in North Korea, eventually taking political asylum in the United States. Not yet finished was (1985), a Japanese-style monster film based on a Korean legend and made in the vein of .

  <고질라>부터 <불가사리>를 거쳐 <갈라메스>(신상옥 감독의 <불가사리> 헐리우드 리메이크작)까지, 이 영화들에 등장하는 괴수들의 계보는 핵무기에 관한 일련의 메시지로 해석된다. 내레이션과 함께 진행되는 한 편의 실험 영화로써, 이 비디오 에세이는 다큐멘터리즘과 일반적인 다큐멘터리 관습과 반대의 관점을 지닌다. <부인과 소년>(히로시마 원자 폭탄의 암호명)의 이야기는 미국 가수 윌 올드햄(일명, 보니 ‘프린스’ 빌리)의 내레이션으로 진행되는데, 이 녹음은 샌프란시스코 외곽의 나이키 미사일 발사 장소 바로 옆에 위치한 한 스튜디오에서 이루어졌다.

  About Film
  The genealogy of the monsters from , via to (Director SHIN’s remake of in Hollywood)is interpreted as a series of deliberate messages about atomic weapons. As an experiment with situated narration this video essay takes a standpoint against documentarism and common documentary practice. The story of (the code name of the Hiroshima bomb)is narrated by the American musician Will Oldham(aka Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy)in a studio building next to The Nike Missile Site outside San Francisco.

  매그너스 바르타스(Magnus Bärtås)
  매그너스 바르타스는 텍스트, 비디오, 조형물 그리고 설치 예술 작업을 하는, 예술가, 작가 그리고 스톡홀름 콘스트팩의 미술 대학 교수이다. 그의 비디오 에세이 <부인과 소년>은  “2010년 오버하우젠 국제 단편영화제”에서 대상을 받았고 몬트리올 누보 시네마 영화제, 비엔나 비엔날레 국제 영화제 그리고 베를린 트랜스미디어 11 등에서 상영되었다. 현대 미술과 비디오 에세이의 관습에서의 내러티브 모델을 실험한, 그의 예술 연구 논문 <당신은 내게 말했지 – 작업 이야기와 비디오 에세이>은 2010년 5월에 출간되었다. 또한, 프레드릭 에크만과 함께, 에세이 3권을 출간했다.

  Magnus Bärtås is an artist, writer and professor of fine arts at Konstfack in Stockholm working with text, video, objects and installation. His video essay won the first prize at “Oberhausen International Film Festival 2010” and has since then been screened at Festival du nouveau cinéma, Montréal, VIENNALE-Vienna International Film Festival and Transmediale-11. Berlin, among other venues. His dissertation in artist research , examining narrative models in contemporary art and the practice of the video essay, was published in May 2010. Together with Fredrik Ekman he has published three books of essays.

  사냥철이 시작되었다. 숲속 동물들은 작은 버스를 타고 안전하게 달아난다. 한밤중에 사냥꾼이 버스를 세우자, 승객들은 살아남아야 한다는 두려움 속에서 본성을 드러낸다.

  Synopsis
  It’s the start of the hunting season. The animals of the forest board a small bus and flee to safety. When hunters stop the bus in the middle of the night, its passengers reveal their true natures in fear for their lives.

  우리는 흔히 자신은 올바른 일을 하고 있으며, 다른 사람에게 동정적이고 정당하다고 믿고 있다. 선택의 순간이 온다면 자신이 의심할 여지없이 선의의 편에 설 것이라고 확신한다. 위협이 없을 때는 영웅처럼 행동하는 것은 쉽다. 하지만 빗발치는 포화 속에서 참된 본성을 드러낼 수 있을까? 우리 이야기 속 주인공들은 스스로를 겁쟁이라고 하지만, 이들은 예기치 못한 용기를 발견한다. 영원히 악당일 것 같은 이가 누군가의 목숨을 구하고 선한 사람이 인생에서 가장 중요한 일에 잘못된 일을 할 때, 이를 판단하는 것은 내리기란 쉽지 않다. 약하다는 것이 면죄부가 될 수 있을까?

  Director’s Statement
  We frequently believe that we are doing the right thing, that we are empathetic and just. We have no doubt that, if and when required, we will stand on the side of good.
  However, it’s easy to behave like a hero when we are not threatened. Are we able to reveal our true nature before we get a baptism of fire? The heroes of our story show themselves to be cowards, and the cowards find unsuspected courage. It makes it difficult to deliver a judgment when an eternal villain saves someone’s life and a good person fails in the most important thing in life. Can such a weakness ever be exonerated?

  이바나 라우시코바 Ivana Laučíková 마틴 스노펙 Martin Snopek

  이바나 라우시코바는 1977년 10월 12일, 파르티잔스케 출생이다. 브라티스라바 연기 아카데미에서 애니메이션을 공부했고, 현재 그 곳에서 교수직을 맡고 있다. 애니메이션 <호모 펠릭스>의 잡지사의 창립자이자 편집장이다.
  마틴 스노펙은 1974년 11월 13일, 브라티스라바 출생. 브라티스라바 연기 아카데미에서 애니메이션을 공부했고, 졸업 작품 <에브리데이 그레이징>은 자그레브 애니메이션 영화제에서 학생 작품상을 비롯한 여러 상들을 수상했다. 그는 연출자일 뿐만 아니라 그래픽 디자이너이자 선생님이기도 하다.

  Ivana Laučíková was born on October 12, 1977 in Partizánske. She studied Animation on Film and Television Faculty, Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and nowadays she’s teaching there. She’s a founder and editor in chief of a magazine about animated film .         
  Martin Snopek born on November 13, 1974 in Bratislava. He studied Animation on Film and Television Faculty, Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. His diploma film was awarded among others also by the main student prize on Animafest Zagreb.  Besides the directing he works as a graphic designer and teacher.
