  시놉시스
  우리가 충격에 빠질 때, 우리의 기억은 멍하니 텅 비게 된다. 충격의 시간은 충격의 역사라고도 부를 수 있다. 이 작품의 가장 중요한 요소는 5-60년대의 오래된 문서들이다. 이 문서에는 중국의 중요한 정보가 기록되어 있다. 나에게 있어 내가 다가갈 수 없었던 것은 역사였다. 이러한 이유로 내 작품에서는 이 역사를 다소 모호한 전설로 바꾸어 사용하였다. 역사에 대한 우리의 인식은 파편적이다. 우리의 역사 인식은 플라시보에 가깝다. 그것은 수동적 혹은 자발적으로 왜곡되어 있다. 이 왜곡 뒤에는 거짓말, 비밀 혹은 익살이 숨어있다. 아마도 그것이 진정한 역사일 것이다. 역사는 우리가 생각하는 방식이지 그 자체가 아니다. 고고학이나 박물관을 가지고 있으면서도 진짜 역사를 마주하면 우리는 여전히 슬픔을 느낀다.

  Synopsis
  The memory is empty, when man gets into a state of shock. can also called the shock of history. The most important element of this work is some old paper from 50's and 60's. The papers recorded some important information of China. To me, it has become history which I can never get close to. For this reason, I can only use my work turned this history into a doubtful  legend. Our conception of history is fragmentary. The conception of history more like a placebo for ourself. our conception of history has been twisted passively or voluntarily. There are lies, secrets or maybe farces behind all these things. Maybe it is just the real history. History is how we think but not what it is. Even we have archeology and museum, we still sorrow when we face the real history.

  1950년대와 60년대에 발행된 신문과 페인팅을 이용해 만든 실험 애니메이션. 신문은 당대의 역사적 기록이지만 때로는 진실을 은폐하고 그 방식은 매우 주관적이다.

  쑨 쉰 SUN Xun

  1980년 중국 푸신에서 출생. 중국예술아카데미에서 판화를 전공했으며 현재는 베이징에서 거주, 작품 활동을 펼치고 있다. 2005년 파이 애니메이션 스튜디오를 설립했다.

  SUN Xun was born in 1980 in Fuxin, China. He currently lives and works in Beijing. He is a graduate from the Print-making Department of the China Academy of Fine Arts. In 2005 he established π Animation Studio.

  나는 실제로 역사가 어떻게 이루어졌는지 보다는 가상의 역사이야기에 더 열중해왔다. 단지 무엇이 완전히 창조된 것이고 무엇이 과거사실에 더 가까운 것인지는 알고 싶다. 그것이 나에게 크게 다르지는 않다고 하더라도 말이다. 하지만 나는 반복적으로 빠져들고 있다. 무엇이 나를 이토록 열중하게 만드는가? 진실과 허구사이를 맴돌고 있는 역사, 그것은 모든 공유된 기억을 위해 반복해서 연주되는 레퀴엠과 같다.

  Synopsis
  I have been infatuation for the kind of imaginary history narrative, rather than an interest in how it became history actually. I simply want to know what is the real invented , And, what is truer to the PAST as I imagine, I can’t recall any difference it made to me. But again and again just get addicted. What drives me so infatuated with it? A lingering history going between truth and stories, that is like a repeating requiem played for all shared memories.

  모든 영감은 친구로부터 받은 ‘신(新)중국’ 이란 작은 책에서 부터 비롯되었다. 아마 2차 세계대전 전에 발행되었을 것으로 추정되는 이 책은 중국에서 오래 살았고 중국에 대해 잘 알고 있는 한 선교사에 의해 쓰여 졌다. 전반적인 내용은 자신의 국가를 사랑하는 법, 국가를 건설하는 법, 쓸모 있는 사람이 되는 법, 그리고 그 시절 중국 혁명에 대한 것이다.
  1949년 이후의 중국을 신(新)중국이라 부르는 것은 누구나 아는 사실이다. 하지만 전에도 이 명칭을 사용한 적이 있었고 그 사실은 매우 흥미로웠다. 이 책을 읽고 난 후, 중국의 현대 역사를 보면서, 중국의 역사가 실제로 반복적인 패턴을 가진다는 점을 발견했다. 그들은 더 가치 있는 일을 하기 위해서 어디서든 멈출 수 있다. 그러나 아마도 그 결과조차 바꿨음직한 많은 알려지지 않은 이야기들이 있을 것이다. 그렇다면 지금의 중국은 어떤가?

  Synopsis
  All the inspirations  from a small book called New China given by a friend of mine. The print time of this book is probably before the Second World War. This book is written by a missionary who lived in China for many years and knows China very well. The general content of this book is telling people how to love their country, how to construct their country, how to be a useful person and about China’s revolution at that time. Everyone knows that China is called New China after 1949. But there used to be the appellation. It is very interesting. After I read through this book, seeing China’s Modern history, I found this country actually runs around a circle. They can stop at any point to do some more valuable things. But maybe there are many unknown stories that behind it have changed its result. While what about China now?

  "Hero" is a kind of historical complex, this complex lead to the transitions of our history, but they are usually ridiculous. "history" means to us more likely a sort of impression, or a virtual reality.

  언어-이데올로기는 신화를 창조하고 역사를 움직인다. 중국 사회를 움직이는 거대 담론에 대한 반성. 여기에서는 <시대의 충격>에서 활용했던 신문-재료를 보다 구체적으로 사용하면서 그 의미의 문제들을 다루고 있다.

  오래된 낡은 5 위안(중화인민공화국의 통화)짜리 지폐에서 영감을 받은 <흑색 단어>는 중국 북동지역에 위치한 오래된 석탄산업 도시 푸신(阜新)시에 관한 영화다. 자신의 성장의 경험과 노스탤지어의 결과로, 감독은 ‘역사’와 ‘권력’에 관해 질문을 던진다: 신비한 어두운 도시에 노란 모래 폭풍이 몰아친다. 하늘을 덮어버릴 듯 검은 연기를 뿜어내는 큰 굴뚝들은 하늘을 찌를 듯 도시 한 가운데 위치해 있다. 세상에 대한 호기심을 잠재우려는 선전 소리들이 매일같이 울려 퍼진다. 도시는 흉포한 괴물처럼 역사를 가두어 버린 거대한 감옥이다. 어느 날 사람들은 소련제 굴착기가 마구잡이로 땅을 파는 것을 보고 비명을 지른다. 굴착기는 점차 도시의 심장부까지 파내고... 역사의 변화를 목도하게 된다. 화폐에 새겨진 것은 단지 그림일 뿐이다...

  Synopsis
  When we sleep deeply, everything becomes history.-Sun Xun
  , inspired by this old five Yuan RMB note, is an account of the rise and fall of Fuxin, an old industrial coal city located in northeastern China. As a result of the experiences and nostalgia of his upbringing, the artist began to question both History and Power: In a mysterious dark city, yellow sand storms wreak havoc.  Several huge smokestacks located in the middle of the city pierce the sky, emitting black fumes, which blanket the sun. The sound of doctrine rings out daily in order to banish various curiosities about this world. The city is a tremendous prison where history is boxed up like a monster – a brutal, fierce monster. One particular day, people were forcing the screaming Soviet Union excavator to clumsily open the skin of the land, gradually closing the heart of the city…even the changes of history can be closely watched. People's money, pattern is just the illustration…

  중국의 옛 전설에 따르면, 진나라의 시황제는 불로불사의 명약을 구하기 위해 그의 신하 서복과 3,000명의 동남동녀(童男童女)를 배에 태워 동쪽의 신산으로 보냈다. 결국 그 배는 일본 땅에 닿았다고 한다. 고대 중국에서도 사람들은 세상에 대해 서로 다른 견해를 가지고 있었다. 어떤 이는 세계는 하나의 큰 산인데 이 산은 “beixu”라는 큰 거북의 등에 자리 잡고 있다고 믿었다. 그 거북은 용의 막내아들로 네 마리의 코끼리 위에서 매우 무거운 짐도 잘 짊어지고 있다고 했다. 이 것이 세상이 이루어진 방식이다.  오직 합법적인 거짓말만을 하는 마술사의 세계는 정치세계의 장엄함을 말한다. 그러나 이것은 단지 오아시스와 같은 신기루이고 전체의 세계는 뒤집혀있다. 모든 것은 낭만적인 황무지이고 이 황무지위에서 사람들이 그렇게 갈망하던 빛은 과연 나타나기나 할까? 아니면 우리는 ‘-주의’를 넘어서, 모든 거짓말을 뒤엎어야 할까, 우리 삶은 어떻게 될까?
  시간은 흘러 지금에 이르렀다. 나는 요코하마 예술센터에서 아트 프로젝트를 위해 일본을 방문했었다. 이 작품은 세 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 첫 번째는 요코하마에서 제작되었으며 10개의 거대한 유화 작품들로 구성된다. 두 번째는 일본에서 시나리오를 가져온 비디오 애니메이션이고 베이징에서 제작 되었다. 세 번째는 장소 특수성을 가진 나고야에서 완성한 작품이다. 이 작품은 중국에서 기원했지만 일본과 관련이 있다.

  Synopsis
  There is an old Chinese legend that says the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty sent Xufu and 3,000 boys and girls on a boat towards the magic lands of the East in order to find the remedy for eternal life…. It is said that the boat reached Japan in the end.
  Similarly, in ancient China, people had different understandings of the world; one says that people believe the world is a big mountain, and this big mountain is carried on the back of a big tortoise whose name is “beixu”, the last son of the Dragon, who is also very good in carrying heavy weights whilst standing over four big elephants … this is the way the world has been structured.
  The world of the Magician, who is the only legal lier, states the magnificence of the world of politics; in reality this is just a mirage, like an oasis, and the entire world is upside down; everything is a romantic wasteland and in this wasteland will the brightness people has so longed ever appear? Or do we need to turn all lies upside down….beyond-ism, how our lives should be?
  Time has passed until now; I came to JapanfortheartprojectattheYokohamaArtcenter.  This artwork combines three parts; I realized the first part that comprises 10 huge ink drawings in Yokohama. In Beijing I realized the second part, which consisted in the video animation the scenarios of which are taken from Japan. The third part is a site – specific drawing I completed now in Nagoya.
  This work is related to Japan, however the story comes from China.

  <-주의를 넘어서>는 요코하마 레지던스 프로젝트 예술가에게서 영감 받은 작품으로 세 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 첫 번째는 10개의 커다란 잉크 그림과 애니메이션 프레임으로 구성되어 있고 요코하마에서 완성되었다. 두 번째, 애니메이션은 베이징에서 완성했고 일본의 Aichi Triennale 2010에서 처음으로 전시되었다. 세 번째는 핸드드로잉 샌드 아트를 찍은 비디오영상으로 상하이의 Rock b0und 박물관에서 전시 되었다. 전체작업은 지역 예술과 함께 진행 되었다.

  Director’s Statement
  was inspired by the artist in residence project in Yokohama, and the work consists of three parts. The first part, which consists of 10 huge ink drawings and frames of animation video, was realized in Yokohama. The second part, the drawings for the animation, was completed in Beijing, and the work was firstly exhibited at Aichi Triennale2010 in Japan. The third part, hand-drawn rendering sand video, was exhibited at Rock bund Museum in Shanghai. The whole process is combined with a site-specific drawing.

  수묵-애니메이션으로 구성된 이 영화는 중국 현대사에 대한 반성과 성찰을 주제로 삼는 쑨 쉰의 다른 작품들과는 조금은 다른 궤도에 놓여있다. 마치 인간이 만들고 변화시키려는 것들이 자연 앞에서는 한낱 부질없는 것들이 아닐까라고 이야기하듯이 말이다.

  This film is made with black-and-white painting-animation. It is a bit different from Sun Xun's other works which have focused on the reflection and introspection on the modern history of China. While watching this film, you may think what human being tries to make and change is useless before the mother nature.

  사람들은 계속해서 역사에 대해 물어본다. 그러나 역사를 100퍼센트 구체적인 시간인 초, 분, 시, 하루, 일 년, 한 세기로부터 떼어놓고 볼 때, 우리가 얻는 답은 질문만큼 진실하거나 흥미롭지는 않다. 세상에 대한 사람들의 이해는 항상 헛되이 변하고 있다. 우리 모두는 정신을 잃고 헤맨다. 우리는 자신을 위해 정해진 공간이 없다는 사실에 당황하면서도 그것에 대해 할 수 있는 일은 없다. 우리 각자는 세상의 가장자리를 배회하는 방랑자인 것이다.

  Synopsis
  People keep questioning the history, however, when history is put away from an actual second, a minute, an hour, a day, a year, a century, a 100% actual specific instead of time, the answer we get is never more true or more exciting than questioning.  People’s understanding of the world is always changing in vain…We, all of us, fall into a trance and wander around; we feel embarrassed to have no fixed abode, but we can do nothing about it. Each of us is a vagabond, wandering around the edge of the world.

  <21g>은 자신의 존재에 관해 고민하는 영화이다. 우리는 항상 인생에 대해 질문하고, 인생의 가치나 의미를 추구하고, 자신의 존재를 정의하기 위해 계속 다른 시스템을 찾아다닌다. 그러나 세상은 우리가 인식하는 것과는 다를지도 모른다. 그것은 변수와 수평으로 공존하고 있는 다중 시스템이 얽힌 복잡한 혼합물일지도 모른다. 우리가 그것에 대해 생각할 때, 우리는 지구의 가장자리에 서 있다는 것을 깨닫게 된다. 우리는 벼랑 끝에 서 있고 당황한다. 우리는 진실을 찾아 가는 길에서 그 진실의 존재를 느낀다. 하지만 절대 그것에 가까워 질 수는 없을 것이다. 세상은 둥글다. 우리의 인생은 파이다. 그러나 우리의 진실에 대한 끝없는 추구는 역시 끝없는 원형이 된다.

  Director’s Statement
  <21g> is a movie discussing about self-existence. We always question life, achieve value or meaning of life, keep looking for different referencing system to define self-existence; however, the world may not be like what we cognize, it could be a complicated mixture of multi variate and multiple systems which coexist and parallel. When we are trying to care, ultimately, we will realize that we are at the most marginal place of the world; we stand on the cliff, and we are always embarrassed. We are on the way to find the truth, we can feel its existence, but can never get close to it. The world is round; our life is like pi; but our continuous approaches turn to be endless cycles.

  이상한 날이다. 신원미상의 한 사람이 초현실적인 정치와 이데올로기의 깃발로 가득한 낯선 환경에서 살아간다. 모든 것이 환상적으로 보이지만 그것은 심오한 현실을 투영한다. 우리 인간은 지구의 한쪽 구석에서 살아가고 있고, 그것이 현실이다. 시간, 공간, 까마귀와 고양이, 교실과 피어오르는 구름들... 권력의 초상 그리고 병원의 고문, 이런 부조리한 이야기들은 이 세상 어두운 구석 어디에서나 항상 발견될 수 있다. 우리는 그런 지배의 통치 속에서 존재하는 것이다. 그렇다면 어떻게 스스로를 발견할 수 있을까? 시간은 역사 속에서 우리가 자신의 행동을 명확히 볼 수 있도록 허락할까?

  Synopsis
  It’s a strange day. An unidentified person lives in alien environment which is full of surreal politics and ideological colors. Everything looks fantastic, but it projects profound reality. We are human living in the particular corner on the earth, it may be real. All the time, space, crows and cats, classrooms and flaming clouds……the authority portrait and the hospital torture, absurd story can be found in every dark corner of the world. We exist in such controlling rules. How to find ourselves? Does time allow us to see our own behavior clearly in this historical process?

   

  연출의도
  이 애니메이션 영화는 목판인쇄양식으로 만들어졌다. 완성하기까지는 1년이 넘게 걸렸다. 중국에서의 목판인쇄는 혁명당시 문화적 무기로 사용되었을 뿐만 아니라 그 혁명정신을 계승했기 때문에 중국만의 독특한 발달 역사를 가지고 있다.  
  그러므로 이것은 단순한 목판인쇄 이상의 의미를 가진다. 그런 애니메이션 프레임은 나에게 먼 국가의, 하지만 그 기억만은 현실에서 반복되고 있는, 그런 특별한 기억을 말해준다.

  Director’s Statement
  This is a animation film made from wood printing block. It costs more than a year to complete the film. Wood printing block has got a unique development and history in  China, since it was a culture weapon in revolution, as well as the inheritor of revolution spirit. Thus, its form is more than wood printing block itself. Those animation frames tell us a special memory of a remote country, but the memory continues to repeat in reality.

  혁명 동안에 행해진 다양한 억압 기제들 속에서도 야수적, 동물적, 원초적 욕망들은 해결할 수 없었음을, 마치 걸개그림을 그리듯, 거침없이 직설적으로 표현한 작품. 그런데 어쩌면 그런 욕망들, 본능들은 혁명이라는 방식으로는 해결 할 수 없는 종류의 것들은 아닐까?

  This film shows the fact that the brutal, instinctive and primitive desire couldn't dissolved even under the various repression mechanism during the revolution. However, can it be possible to dissolve those desires and instinct by the way of revolution?
