  시놉시스
  담임선생님께 찍힌 문제아인 석환의 동생 상환(류승범 분). 그의 하루는 길거리와 오락실에서 삥 뜯기, 담배를 입에 물고 친구들과 거리를 활보하며 싸움하기, 그리고 술 마시기. 학교는 갑갑하고 미래에 대해서는 아무 꿈도 없는 상환. 그는 어느 날 형의 친구인 성빈을 보게 된다. 돈과 여자, 술과 싸움은 그가 꿈꾸던 '진정한 남자의 세계‘다. 상환은 성빈을 찾아가 폭력단에 가입시켜 줄 것을 간청하고 성빈은 십년 전 당구장 사건을 떠올린다.

  Synopsis
  Suk-hwan's brother, Sang-hwan(Ryu Seung-beom) is fingered as a troublemaker by his teacher. His routine is to fleece others of money, to stride down the street with a cigarette in his mouth, to fight, and to drink. He feels school suffocating him and has no dream for the future. One day, he sees his brother's friend, Sung-bin. He lives in the 'real man's world' having money, women, alcohol, and fight. Sang-hwan goes to Sung-bin and begs to let him join the gang, reminding Sung-bin of the poolroom fighting 10 years ago.     

   

  작품소개
  과거 자신의 실수로 살인자가 된 친구가 세월이 흘러 자신의 동생을 죽음의 길로 내모는 것을 목도하는 한 형사의 이야기다. 비참함과 허무함의 어둡고 무거운 감정이 화려하지 않으나 생생하고 실감나는 액션으로 채워진 영화다. 영화는 세상을 사는 사람들이 더 나은 미래를 보며 살지만 그 미래의 시작인 현재는 오히려 어두운 과거와 너무도 밀접하게 연결되어 있다는 것을 보여준다. 흑백의 영상이어서 아니 오히려 그 어둡고 칙칙한 흑백의 이미지가 날것의 액션을 통해 나타남으로 더욱 강한 인상을 준다.

  제16회 부산단편영화제 우수작품상을 수상한 <패싸움> 상영이 불가능 하여 단편 4부작 마지막 작품인 <죽거나 혹은 나쁘거나>를 대체 상영한다.

  About Film
  This is a story about a police officer who made his friend a murderer by mistake when young. Many years after, he witnesses his own brother's death on his duty to fight crime. Dark and heavy feelings of misery and emptiness are expressed by not flashy but vivid and realistic actions this movie is filled with. This movie shows the fact that though people live for the better future, their starting point for that future, the present is rather connected with the dark past. Dark, drab, and black-and-white images leave a strong impression through realistic actions.  

  Instead of the Best Picture Award winner at the 16th Busan Short Film Festival, - consisting of four distinct parts, the last part, will be screened.

  인간시장에서 막노동 일거리를 구하는 사람들. 다리를 저는 한 남자는 일거리를 구하지 못하고, 주인공은 그와 함께 가변차선에서 일을 한다. 하층민들의 깊은 회한이 묻어나는 작품

  Synopsis
  People looking for the manual labor in labor market. For a crippled man, it is hard to get a job. Finally he works on a reversible lane(the extra lane). This film shows the deep remorse of the underclass. 

   

  작품소개
  소외된 사람들의 초상화와 같은 영화로 염세적인 시선으로 거대한 도시의 밑바닥을 사는 사람들의 삶을 이야기한다. 사회의 가장 밑바닥 인생이라 할 수 있는 막노동꾼 거기다 장애까지 있는 최악의 상황을 덧붙인 인물들의 모습은 보는 이의 마음을 불편하게 만들지만 주인공이 가지고 있는 성냥을 통해 세상에 대한 자그만 희망을 주지만 이 허약한 희망은 종반부의 큰 절망을 위한 장치이다. 사회는 선택하는 자 그리고 선택을 받는 자와 선택을 받지 못하는 자 이렇게 세 부류로 나뉘고 결국 밑바닥 인생을 사는 사람들은 가진자의 호의에 의해 운명이 결정지어지며 자신의 의지로 할 수 있는 것은 없다는 것을 아니 자유의지로 가능한 것은 ‘자살’뿐이라는 극단적 설정을 통해 사회에서 자신의 운명을 개선시킬 ‘가변차선’은 있지 않다는 사회비판적 영화다.

  About Film
  This film is like a portrait of the marginalized people. It tells you a story about people who live a poverty-stricken life in a megacity rather pessimistically. While the fact that the main character is a disabled day-worker makes you uncomfortable, the matches he has imply a little hope toward the world. But in the end this fragile hope turns out to be a device for great despair. According to this film, there are three kinds of people in our society: One is the choosers, another is the chosen, and the other is the unchosen.
  The choosers decide the others' fate and the others cannot do anything as they wish except 'death'. Through this extreme setting, this social critical film says there is no reversible lane(extra lane).

  시놉시스
  한 남자와 소녀가 차를 타고 나아간다. 그들은 분명 어색하지만, 무슨 이유에서인지 그냥 나아간다. 단지 어색한 대화만이 간간이 서로의 관계를 이어준다. 곧 그들은 한적한 한 바닷가에 다다르고, 남자와 소녀는 무언가를 응시할 뿐이다.

  Synopsis
  A man and a girl are going somewhere in a car. They definitely feel strange, but anyhow they are just going. Only awkward talks from time to time tell us their relation. Soon they arrive at a secluded beach and stare at something. 

  
  작품소개
  전후 상황이 생략된 상황에서 어딘가를 향해 가는 형사와 소녀의 동행... <그와 동행>은 어떤 부재, 혹은 상처를 알지 못한 채 살아가는 존재의 무력함을 반복적인 클로즈업 쇼트와 함축적인 대사를 통해 표현한다. 그 부재와 아픔은 나의 것이든 타인의 것이든 근원적인 비극을 내포한다. 관객은 관습적인 내러티브 대신 함축적인 시청각적 인지를 통해 영화적 의미를 재구성하게 된다.

  About Film
  Accompaniment of a detective and a girl who are going toward somewhere without any explanation of the circumstances... is a film about the helplessness of existence, not knowing a certain absence or pain. The repetitive close-up shots and implicit dialogues bring out the theme of the film. The pain and the absence that are mines or others’, they imply the underlying tragedy. Instead of the conventional narrative, we reconstruct the implicit cinematic meaning with the pure audio-visual cognition.

  최용석 CHOI Yong-Seok

  1998년 디지털 단편 극영화 [EXOTIC]을 각본 및 연출하였으며, 직접 시나리오를 쓰고 연출한 장편영화 <제외될 수 없는>(2007)으로 2007 시네마디지털서울 경쟁부문 및 중국 독립영화 아카이브(CIFA) 개관 기념 영화제에 공식 초청되었다.

  He wrote and directed a digital short drama in 1998. His feature film , which he wrote and directed, was selected in the competition section of '2007 Cinema Digital Seoul Film Festival' and officially invited to a film festival commemorating the opening of CIFA(Chinese Independent Film Archive).
