데이비드는 이혼 후 엄마와 함께 살고 있으며 직장에서는 해고 위기에 놓여있다. 그러나 자신의 아들은 크리스마스(동방박사의 날) 선물로 해적선을 원했었다. 그는 무슨 일을 해서라도 해적선을 구할 것이다.

Synopsis
David is separated, lives with his mother and is about to be fired from his job. But his son has asked a pirate ship for Christmas, and he will get it even if he has to go to the ends of the earth.

작품소개
크리스마스(동방박사의 날) 선물을 통해 가족의 의미를 다시 생각해 볼 수 있는 훈훈한 영화로 진정한 선물은 해적선이나 게임기 같은 돈으로 사는 물건이 아니라 서로를 아끼고 사랑하는 돈으로 살 수 없는 마음이라는 것을 말해준다. 영화는 주인공인 아빠의 변화에 중점을 두고 있다. 아들을 위해 힘들게 준비한 자신의 선물인 해적선이 이미 커버린 아들이 더 이상 원하는 것이 아니라는 것을 알면서도 이 사실을 받아들이지 않던 그는 자신을 구하는 아들을 본 후 아들의 성장을 발견하고 인정한다. 갈등이 한 방향의 애정이 아닌 양방향의 애정을 확인하면서 해소된다. 35미리 필름의 질감이 크리스마스(동방박사의 날) 분위기와 잘 어울리고 감독의 인물들에 대한 애정 어린 시선을 통해 이야기를 차분히 이끌어가는 연출력이 돋보이는 작품이다.

About Film
This heartwarming film makes you think what the family is for, through a Christmas gift. It says the real present is not the thing that can be bought with money but the heart that you love each other.
This film focuses on the father’s change. He prepares a pirate ship for his son but he grew up already and dosen’t want to have it anymore. He also knows the fact but it is hard to take the truth. Meanwhile he sees his son coming to rescue him and admit the fact that his son is now grown-up. Conflict is eased by mutual love not by one-way love from father. 35mm film goes well with Christmas atmosphere and the director’s affectionate view unfolds the story calmly. Directing is outstanding in this film.

조이는 친구와 함께 공원 파티에 가고 거기서 과거 자신의 여자 친구를 보게 된다. 그는 그녀에게 다가가 말을 걸고 아직도 그녀를 사랑하고 있다고 말하기로 결심한다. 하지만 거대한 달팽이가 이들을 가로막는다! 조이는 그녀를 되찾기 위해 무엇이든 해야만 한다.

Synopsis
Joey is with his friends at a party in a park when he sees his ex-girlfriend there. He decides to go talk to her and tell her he still loves her, but a giant snail interrupts them! Joey will have to do whatever it takes to get the girl of his life back.

작품소개
인물, 상황, 사건 등 많은 부분이 유럽의 예술영화 보다는 할리우드 영화, 혹은 1950년대 B급 미국 SF영화를 연상시키는 영화다. 괴물로부터 소녀를 구하는 소년의 이야기로 미국영화처럼 보이게 하는 두꺼운 필터 뒤에는 카탈루냐적 요소가 드러난다. 영화 전반에 걸쳐 눈에 띄는 지역 축구팀 ‘FC 바르셀로나’의 유니폼과 앰블렘은 이곳이 바르셀로나라는 것을 상기시킨다. 더구나 악을 물리치는 무기가 지역의 맥주인 ‘에스트레야’라는 설정은 황당함을 넘어 재치가 넘친다. <새벽의 황당한 저주>, <뜨거운 녀석들>의 감독인 에드가 라이트가 스페인에서 태어나 젊은 시절에 영화를 찍었다면 이렇지 않았을까 생각되는 작품이다.

Many parts of this film, such as characters, background, and plot remind American commercial films, or B-SF movies rather than European art films.
It’s about a boy who rescues a girl from a monster. Behind the thick filter which makes this film look like an American movie, lie Catalonian factors. Uniforms and emblems of the local football team ‘FC Barcelona’ throughout this film tell us this place is Barcelona. Also, the fact that the weapon to defeat the evil is local beer ‘Estrella’ making this story cute.
If Edgar Wright, the director of <Shaun of the Dead> and <Hot Fuzz>, had been born in Spain, he would have produced films like this.

무질서한 범죄 The disorganized crime, EL Crimen Desorganizado

총, 다이나마이트, 자동차 그리고 잘 짜인 계획만 있다면 카지노를 터는 일은 식은 죽 먹기이다. 적어도 영화에서는 말이다. 하지만 만약 도둑들이 우리와 같은 평범한 사람들이라면 어떨까?
로베르토 카를로스, 파울리노, 마놀로 그리고 치프는 조직범죄를 망쳐놓는다. 가족으로서의 의무와 시간 부족, 운송수단의 문제 때문에 이들 다섯 명의 갱은 언제 어떻게 카지노를 털지에 대한 합의에 도달하지 못한다. 결국 “조직”이 경제적 어려움에 빠지자 이들은 카지노 대신에 신용카드를 들고 은행으로 가기로 결정한다.

Synopsis
Guns, dynamite, a car and a well thought out plan is all it takes to rob a casino, at least in the movies. But what happens if the thieves are people like us?
Roberto Carlos, Paulino, Manolo and Chief disrupt organized crime. Between family obligations, lack of time or means to transport these 5 mobsters do not reach an agreement on when or how to rob the casino. As ''the organization'' is in economic trouble finally decide that instead of robbing the casino they will take a credit to the bank.

작품소개
마피아를 통해 경제위기에 처해있는 스페인의 상황을 풍자하는 영화. 등장하는 인물들이 냉혈하고 비정한 킬러가 아니라 세금, 다이어트, 가족 문제에 힘들어 하는 생활인의 모습을 보인다. 전체적인 대사와 분위기에서 할리우드 영화의 분위기를 풍기지만, 이것이 외형적 모습이라면 중요한 부분인 내부에는 현재의 스페인이라는 특정 시공간에서 벌어지고 있는 공공기관 파업, 이민과 같은 여러 사회문제들이 숨어 있다. 악당은 나쁜 일을 해야 악당이다. 우리의 주인공들은 마피아다. 마피아가 은행을 갈 때는 돈을 빌리러 가는 것이 아니라 훔치는 것이 당연하다. 더구나 거대한 건물에서 빛나는 보석과 시계를 두르고 말을 번지르르하게 늘어놓는 은행원 앞에서 우리는 그들의 감추어진 본색이 드러내기를 간절히 원한다.

About Film
This film is a satire mocking Spain’s economy in crisis by showing Mafia. The viewpoint is that the characters are not cold-blooded heartless killers but ordinary people struggling with tax, diet, and family problems.
Although overall dialogues and atmosphere is Hollywood style ostensibly, it covers the strikes in public organizations and immigration issues in today’s Spain.
Villains are villains when they do the evil things. Main characters of this film are the mafia. When they go to the bank, it is not for loan but for the robbery. You would wish they can reveal hidden nature of bank clerks, who are smooth-tongued and wear shiny jewelry and watches.

작품소개
희극과 비극이 혼합된 작품으로 심각한 상황을 가벼운 유머로 만드는 연출력과 서로 주고받는 대사와 액션을 잘 처리한 배우의 연기가 돋보이는 작품이다. 두 명의 군인이 적지 한복판에 나란히 나무에 매달려 있다. 낙하산을 풀지 못하고 이대로 있으면 적군에게 붙잡힐 것이다. 혼자서는 아무것도 할 수 없고, 서로를 도와야만 난관을 돌파할 수 있지만, 시간이 지날수록 상황은 점점 악화되기만 하고, 처음에는 실수로 결국에는 의도적으로 서로에게 총을 쏘는 어리석은 두 사람의 모습이 심각하기보다 오히려 유머러스하다. 제2차 세계대전 중 스페인 파스시트들인 팔랑헤당의 사람들이 푸른색 셔츠를 입고 동부전선의 나치를 지원한 역사적 사실이 영화의 배경인 이 작품은 어리석은 파스시트들을 풍자하고 있다.

About Film
Mixed of comedy and tragedy, this film is remarkable in directing and acting. The director turns serious situation into light humor and the actors perform splendidly.
Two soldiers are hanging on a tree side by side in the middle of the enemy’s camp. They would be caught if they don’t release their parachutes. They need each other’s help but as time goes by, the situation gets worse. At first, by accident, and eventually, intentionally, they shoot at each other. Their stupidness is rather humorous.
The historic fact that Spanish facists, Falangists wore the blue shirts and helped Nazi Germany on the Eastern Front in Russia is the background of this film. It is a satire mocking silly facists.

마뉴엘은 슬픈 삶을 살아가는 중년의 남자이다. 그는 지루한 직장의 굴레에 갇혀있고 자신의 유일한 친구를 견뎌내지 못한다. 그의 가족들은 그를 거부하는 것 같다.
그러나 마뉴엘이 희귀병 진단을 받자 모든 것이 달라진다. 그는 코끼리가 되어가고 있는 것이다.

Synopsis
Manuel is a middle-aged man with a very sad life: he is stuck in a rut with a boring job, he can’t stand his only friend, and his family seems to reject him.
Yet everything changes when Manuel is diagnosed with a very strange illness: he is going to become an elephant.

작품소개
실제로 코끼리처럼 생긴 외모를 가졌던 ‘조세프 메릭’의 이야기를 다룬 데이비드 린치 감독의 <엘리펀트 맨>에 대한 언급이 등장하지만, 그것 보다는 인도의 불교 설화에 등장하는 코끼리를 만지는 장님의 이야기를 통해 본 미국의 콜롬바인 고등학교에서 일어났던 총기 사고를 다룬 구스 반 산트 감독의 <엘리펀트>가 연상되는 영화다. 이미 존재하고 있는 내부의 문제를 가리키는 서양의 우화로 ‘거실의 코끼리’라는 것이 있다. 문제를 해결해야 하지만 너무 큰 문제라 이러지도 저러지도 못하고 그대로 방치하는 상황을 우회적으로 가리키는 말이다. 영화는 우화에 나오는 ‘코끼리’라는 상징적인 표현을 실제로 영상에 옮긴다. 가족과 사회에서 자신이 있을 자리를 잃어버린 중년의 남자. 모든 사람들에게 문제가 되어 버린 그가 실제로, 글자 그대로 코끼리가 되어 간다.

About Film
Even though David Lynch’s Elephantman was mentioned in the film, this film brings up the images of Gus Van Sant’s Elephant, which dealt with ‘Colombine High School massacre’ using India’s Buddhist tale of blind man touching the elephant.
An English idiom, ‘Elephant in the room’ means an obvious problem that is either being ignored or going unaddressed as it is too serious to deal with. This film carries symbolic representation of the elephant in the room. A middle aged man loses his place in his family and society and has become everybody’s trouble just like ‘the elephant’.

작품소개
형식적 특성인 짧은 시간이 이야기의 밀도를 높이는 단편의 미덕을 잘 표현한 작품이다. 의도적이지 않게 이야기가 진행되는 도중 자연스럽게 캐릭터를 만드는 연출력이 돋보인다. 다른 사람의 루즈를 슬쩍 사용하는 약삭빠름, 일하는 곳에 친구와 아이를 데리고 온 무신경, 아무 곳에서나 아이에게 젖을 먹이는 뻔뻔함, 아이의 약을 놓고 온 실수를 통해 그녀에 대해 우리가 갖는 편견이 얼마나 잘못되어 있고 단편적인 이라는 것을 극 중반 남편의 외도를 통해 작은 반전을 이루고 영화의 마지막에는 그녀를 조금이나마 진정으로 이해하게 된다. 아니, 그녀의 처지에 동감하게 만드는 이야기 연결이 매끄럽다. 장편과 단편을 가리지 않고 작품 활동을 하는 여성 감독의 연출력이 돋보인 작품이다.

About Film
This film well expresses the virtue of short films, delivering its story in a short time. Narrative flows naturally creating characters, which makes the good directing stand out.
Craftiness using other’s lipstick, insensitiveness bringing her friends and kids to the workplace, shamelessness breast-feeding anywhere, and scruffiness misplacing her kid’s medicine, things like these let you know how wrong and fragmentary bias you have on her after her husband’s affair scene. At the end of this film the smooth progress of narrative makes you sympathize with her. Directing power of this female director shines regardless of the length of films.
