  시놉시스
  Alicia는 발레 무용수가 되기를 꿈꾼다. 할머니와 살고 있는 안락한 풍차 속에서 오랫동안 기다려온 오디션에 나갈 순간만을 손꼽아 기다린다. 그러나 바깥세상은 그녀의 생각만큼 평화로운 곳이 아니다. 

  Synopsis
  Alicia dreams of becoming a ballet dancer. In the cozy windmill where she lives with her grandmother, she impatiently waits for the moment to go for the long-awaited audition. But out there the world is not as idyllic as she thinks...

   

  연출의도
  몇 년 전, 스페인 텔레비전에서 세 명의 ETA 테러리스트가 소위 “잠정적 휴전”을 선포하는 장면을 보았다. 세 명의 후드를 뒤집어쓴 남자들은 테이블 앞에 앉아서 폭력과 살인을 그만두겠다고 말하고 있었다. 적어도 한동안은.
  그 순간, 도대체 무엇이 이들에게 폭력만이 유일한 삶의 수단이자 정치적 불만을 표출하는 방법이 되게 했는지가 궁금했다. 주변의 평범한 사람들에게 많은 잔인한 행동을 저지르는 이들의 내면에는, 그 눌러쓴 모자 속에는 무엇이 숨겨져 있을까? 일종의 (적어도 대부분의 사람들이 생각하는) 인간애라는 것이 있을까?

  Director’s Statement
  A few years ago, on the spanish television I saw the recording of three members of the terrorist group ETA announcing what they called "a provisional truce”. Three hooded men sitting in front of a table where telling the whole country they are abandoning violence and murder. At least for a while.
  At that moment I thought about how these people made from violence their only way of life, there unique way of expressing their political disagreement: placing trick bombs under peoples cars, in airport parking lots, murdering innocent people by shooting them while having breakfast in a cafeteria and so on. As I watched the video of these people hiding their identities behind the hoods, I wondered if, behind all that non sense violence, somehow deep inside them, behind the hoods, there could be a place for some sort of humanity (at least what most people understand by "humanity").

  폐허가 된 건물 한 남자가 묶여있다. 험상궂은 세 남자가 둘러싸고 고문을 가하며 그에게서 무엇인가를 알아내려고 한다. 황폐한 공간을 넘어서는 끔찍한 현실. 동화 속에서나 나올 것 같은 아름다운 공간에 귀여운 소녀가 있다. 만화경을 통해 무엇인가를 보던 소녀는 할머니의 손을 잡고 밖으로 나간다. 소녀는 다채로운 공간을 가로질러 앞의 폐허가 된 공간으로 들어선다. 소녀가 그곳으로 들어서면서 그 끔찍한 현실은 변하기 시작한다.
  폭력과 죽음이 난무하는 공간, 그리고 환상 속의 공간. 이 이질적인 공간과 이질적인 인물들이 한 장소에서 만난다. 그리고 그 순간 영화가 줄 수 있는 환상의 순간이 펼쳐진다. 디에고 모디노 감독의 영화 <환상의 순간>은 영화가 만들어내는 환상의 순간을 보여준다.

  A man is tied up in a ruined building. Three tough-looking men are surrounding him, torturing and trying to find out something from the man. Terrible reality behind the devastated place. There is a cute beautiful girl you might see in a fairly-tale. The girl, having watched something through the kaleidoscope, steps outside holding her grandmother's hand. She walks across many different places and enters into that ruined building. The terrible reality starts to change as she gets into there.
  The place where violence and death are rampant. The place of illusion. These disparate places and people meet in a single place. At the very moment, the fantasy only movies can give begins to unfold. Diego Modino's film, <Ephemeral>, shows the moment of fantasy that movies can make.

  디에고 모디노 Diego Modino
  1972년 스페인 아버지와 프랑스인 어머니 사이에서 마드리드 출생. 마드리드의 Lycée Français에서 공부한 후, 뉴욕으로 가서 뉴욕대학 Tisch 예술학교에서 영화와 TV를 전공했다.
  다시 마드리드로 돌아와서 아트 디렉터이자 제작 디자이너, 시나리오 작가로 활동했다.
  현재는 다시 영화계로 돌아와 새 단편영화 <환상의 순간>을 연출했다.

  Diego Modino was born in Madrid in 1972, from spanish father and french mother. After studying in the Lycée Français of Madrid he travelled to New York to pursue his studies in film and television at Tisch School of the Arts of New York University.
  Back to Madrid he pursued a career as an art director / production designer and screen writer for movies, TV and commercials as well. It’s only now, after gathering experience in many fields of production that he decided to come back to the path of direction, with his new short film <Ephemeral>.

  마크는 광대한 산림지대의 한중간, 외로운 변경지점에서 근무를 명령받는다. 여행허가증을 가진 자만이 마크와 그의 상관이 경계하고 있는 관문을 통과할 수 있다. 아이를 가진 한 젊은 커플이 이곳에 도착한다. 남편은 자신과 아이의 여행허가증을 분실했고 아내 혼자 여행하는 것에 반대한다. 그는 마크에게 한 번만 눈감아달라고 부탁하지만 수포로 돌아간다. 결국, 그 가족은 경계선 근처에서 캠프를 하기로 결정한다.

  Synopsis
  Mark is ordered to serve at the desolated frontier post in the middle of a vast woodland. Only those with travel permit are allowed to pass through the barrier guarded by Mark and his Superior. A young couple with a child arrives at the border. The husband is missing a travel permit for him and the child but refuses his wife to travel alone. He tries to convince Mark to turn a blind eye and let them all through but to no avail. As a last resource they decide to camp at the barrier.

  한적한 숲 속에 국경 경비소가 있다. 그곳 경비 근무를 위해 새롭게 신임이 들어왔다. 업무는 단순하다. 통행증을 소지한 자만 출입을 허가한다. 하지만 언제나 그렇듯이, 상황이란 것은 그렇게 생각한 대로 단순하게만 흘러가지는 않는다. 영화는 신참의 시점에서 만나는 미스터리한 순간들을 옮겨 놓는다. 과연 그들에게 무슨 일이 있었던 것일까?

  There is a frontier guard post in a quiet forest. A newcomer starts to work there for guard duty. The duty is simple. He only allows people possessing a pass to enter. As always, however, the situation dose not simply go with the flow. This film carries mysterious moments into the screen from the newcomer's point of view. What happened to them, indeed?

  어떻게 보일러 고장, 중국으로의 이사, 레드 스카프가 죽음과 선택으로 이끌 수 있는가.

  Synopsis
  How a boiler breakdown, relocation to China and a red scarf can lead to death and a choice.
   
  연출 의도
  <레드 스카프>는 실화에 바탕을 둔 영화이다. 나로서는 말하기 두려웠던 주제: 개인과 단체 사이의 관계. 그들을 촬영하는 작업에서의 영상연출은 그들과 세상과의 관계를 표현하는 것에 주안점을 두었다. 퍼지효과를 사용해서 주인공을 나머지로부터 분리했고, 시끄러운 몸체와 기계들, 그리고 장비들을 가장 단순한 표현으로 압축했다.

  Director’s Statement
  <Red Scarf> is a film based on a true story which I used to talk about a subject that is dear to me : the relationship between the Individuals and the group.
  The direction of visual as work on the filming them is to express their relationship to the world. I isolated them from the rest of the protagonists using fuzzy and I compressed the should to its simplest expression from that the noisy bodies, machines or tools.

  한 여성 노동자의 해고와 그 해고 노동자 가족의 경제적 생활고에 대한 사회구조적 반영을 대사 없는 영상언어를 통해 내러티브를 이끌어 간다. 오직 인물들의 행동과 감정, 단순한 상황의 단면이 지닌 힘으로 점철된 장면들은 태초의 이미지로서의 영화라는 본질적 힘이 현대에도 기저에 놓여있음을 보여주는 작품이다. 영화 속의 레드 스카프와 무채색의 화면 대조를 통해 제목이 시사하는 상징성도 눈여겨볼 만하다.

  This film is led by a narrative only with film language without any line. It reflects on our society by describing dismissal of a female worker and the economic hardships in her family. It presents characters' action, feelings and simple aspects of a situation, through which you can see the natural power of films in early days are still alive in this modern age. We need to think about the symbolic expression suggested by its title through contrast the Red Scarf in this film with the achromatic-colored screen.

  로맹 논 Romain Nonn

  내 경력은 다소 혼란스럽다. 나는 석공업과 임업, 술집 등에서 다양한 무역으로 경력을 시작했다. 그러나 항상 글을 쓰고 싶은 욕구가 있었다. 영화에 처음 발을 들여놓게 된 것은 로케이션 매니저로서였고, 그 후 TV시리즈물을 파는 일을 했다. 그러는 동안에도 글을 쓰다가 나의 글쓰기에 대한 욕망이 영화 만들기로 바뀌었다는 사실을 깨달았다. 현재는 나의 목표, 영화 만들기를 위한 작업 중이다.

  My background is chaotic. I started work very early in various trades in either masonry, forestry or bars. Yet I always wanted to write. My first experience of cinema was the location manager then I managed to sell a pitch for a TV series. I then chained scenarios until I realized that my desire to write became total in making a film. I am currently working to achieve my goals, make a movie.

  One day Hyung-ho run away from home. He wander strange city and experience to change of feeling in people.

  관계를 맺는 것이 불편하다. 사람들은 지나치면 그만이지만 가족은 벗어나기 힘든 공동체이다. 어떤 사건을 계기로 보이지 않던 어떤 것들이 보이기 시작한다. 그것도 가까운 곳에서 사람이 싫어 사람을 피해 다니던 주인공은 사람들 속에서 중요한 무언가를 발견한다.

  Director’s Statement
  uncomfortable to make relationship. sometimes family is uncomfortable but they always important. It starts to see from any incident to nothing. Even too closest. The hero who avoid people gets important thing from people.

  가족이라는 틀 안에서조차 삶을 지탱해 나갈 수 있는 최소한의 힘을 얻지 못한다면 우리는 어디서 위안과 용기를 얻어 살아나갈 수 있을까? <평범한 식사>는 한국 사회의 거대한 이데올로기 중에 하나인 기독교문화와 그 속에서 최소한의 존중도 허락되지 못하고 살아가는 한 가족의 공동체, 그 속에서도 한참을 비켜나 있는 남자 주인공의 한 단면을 통해 우리의 삶을 되돌아보게 한다.
  어느 누구에게도 존재의 이유를 용인받지 못하고 있는 주인공처럼 우리네 삶 대부분도 그러한 것이 아닌지.. 영화는 남자주인공의 공간들을 통해 지금 우리가 살아가는 일상의 공간들을 냉정히 다시 바라보게 하며 그 시선의 울림의 여운은 오랫동안 남는다.

  Where do we get the comfort and courage to live unless we get the least amount of power to sustain life even within the family? <The closest thing> has us look back to our lives through Christian culture of Korean society, which is one of the huge ideologies in Korea. It's about a man who are not allowed the minimum respect within his own family through him we can look back our own life.
  Aren't most of our lives same as the life of the main character whose reason of existence has not been approved by anyone? The movie makes us gaze back everyday spaces with cool head and the lingering echo of this gaze remains for a long time.
