  시놉시스
  한쪽 눈의 시력을 잃은 채 강원도 고성에서 건어물가게를 하고 있는 호섭. 서울에서 공무원 시험 준비를 하고 있는 동생(기섭)이 돈을 받으러 내려온 어느 날. 점잖아 보이는 손님이 오징어를 사러 들어와 슬슬 진상을 떨기 시작한다.
  Synopsis
  Ho-seop runs a dried fish shop in Gangwon province blind in one eye. One day his younger brother Gi-seop who is preparing for a civil service exam in Seoul visits him to get some money. Then, a man who looks like a gentleman comes to buy squids and starts to making a scene.

  살아남기 위한 방법과 살아가기 위해 지키고 싶은 사람의 마음이 잘 나타나 있고, 인물들 각각의 캐릭터 묘사가 잘 되어있다.

  Synopsis
  At small halt, there is a woman, Su-kyoung, waiting for her husband riding in 5:50 train to return home. And a strange man talking to her. Where you going, waiting on someone, He bothers asking her one thing and another. Strangely it's not so bad for her. She wonders who this guy is.

  리뷰 _ 김남석
  이 작품은 소재만 놓고 판단하면 다소 진부할 수도 있는 작품이었다. ‘헤어진 남편을 기다리며 기찻길을 방황하는 여인’이라는 소재는 식상하게 여겨질 수도 있기 때문이다. 하지만 이 작품은 이러한 진부함을 넘어서는 깊이를 확보하는 데에 성공했다. 특히 카메라는 등장인물의 심리적 표현을 돋보이게 만들고 있으며, 주변의 인물상을 영화 내에 끌어들이는 흡입력을 발휘하고 있다. 플롯의 진행을 예측할 수 있다는 점은 작은 약점이라고 하겠다. 
  Review _ KIM Nam-Seok
  This film could be said somewhat cliché if you focused only on the subject material, 'a woman's wandering waiting for her ex-husband'. This film, however, has succeeded in securing a depth beyond this chiché. Especially the camera makes the psychological expressions of the characters stand out and proves its attraction power. The fact that you can predict the progression of the plot is a small weak point.

  책의 페이지 속에 갇힌 혼령들 사이를 여행하는 동안, 미카일은 동유럽의 어딘가 폐허가 된 도시의 잔해 속에서 한 악령과 격투를 벌이고 있다. 과거와 고통스런 기억으로부터 나온 희미해진 이미지들이 점차 그 모습을 드러낸다.
  Synopsis
  In the rubble of a run-down city, somewhere in Eastern Europe, Mikhail is grappling with his own personal demons, in the course of an ultimate journey among the ghosts trapped in the pages of a book. Faded images from the past and painful memories gradually come to life.

   

  리뷰 _ 엄준석
  죽음을 죽이지 않기 위해 우리는 그곳-수용소에서 나왔던 말과 증언에 귀를 기울일 필요가 있다. 그런데 그 말-증언 대부분이 '문자'로 나타난 데 반해 이 영화는 '이미지', '음성'의 방식을 통해 그곳의 죽음을 말하려 한다. 그러니까 더없이 감각적이고 숭고한 이미지-음성을 통해 말이다. 헌데, 그 이미지-음성이 다분히 촉각적이고 통각적이어서 그 비극을 절실히 통감하는 한편 사라진 존재의 고귀함을 잊지 않게 해준다. 비극을 허무로 넘겨버리지 않는 '더'윤리적인 애도. 영화에서 나타나듯 그 죽음이 여전히 우리의 현재에 머물고 있음에도 '철거'로, '망각'으로 지우려 하는 시점이라면 이 영화의 애도는 '더' 윤리적인 것이 아닌가.

  Not to kill the death, we should listen to the words and testimony coming from there - the camp. While the words-testimony are in 'letters', this film chooses 'images' and 'voices' to tell about the death. That is, remarkably sensual and sublime images-voices. The images-voices are rather tactile-sensuous and apperceptive but helps not to loose the nobility. 'More' ethical mourning which tries not to turn the tragedy into futility. If we are trying to erase the death under the name of 'demolition' or 'oblivion' as in this film even though it is still with us now, the mourning of this film may be 'more' ethical.

  알랭 에스칼 Alain Escalle
  1967년 프랑스의 아르겔레스 쉬르 메에서 출생. 피터 그리너웨이 감독의  <남자, 음악, 모차르트를 위한 M> 보조 컴퓨터 그래픽디자이너로 데뷔. 1992년 파리 도쿄궁에서 전시된 ‘메두사의 뗏목‘ 설치 영상을 제작하면서 디지털영상감독 데뷔. 2년 후 첫 번째 단편 영화 <난파 후에>로 디지털 SCAM 작품상 수상. 데뷔 이후로 알랭 에스칼은 세계사와 미술사를 두루 섭렵하면서 시각적인 자료를 수집하는 작업을 해왔다. 수차례의 일본 여행 후, 여러 유명 국제영화제에서 상을 탄 단편 영화 <부유하는 세계의 이야기>를 연출.
  Born in Argelès-sur-Mer en 1967, Alain Escalle first works as an assistant graphic designer on Peter Greenaway's dance art video . He becomes a director in digital images in 1992 with his first video installation , which is exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo, then two years later with his first short film (SCAM digital work award). Since his debut, Alain Escalle develops a work of visual research, scouting the world's history as well as the arts' history. After many trips to Japan, he directs .

  실사영화에서 만큼이나 애니메이션에서도 어려운 기술인 단 하나의 롱샷 기법으로 이루어진 이 영화는 전반적인 구조에서(똑같은 카메라가 항상 하나의 축으로 이동하는) 미니멀주의와 원형의 캐리커처와 그것이 각각의 새로운 캐릭터에 맞게(우리의) 시각을 이동시키면서 타이틀 모양의 넓이, 깊이, 높이를 끊임없이 바꾸는 방식을 이용해서 인간 행동을 묘사하는 표현주의의 양극단을 잘 처리하고 있다.

  Consisting of only one long-shot, a technique as demanding in animation as it is in live-action, Labour Ward manages to be both minimalist in its overall structure (always the same camera moves, in only one axis; one couple at a time) and expressionist in its portrayal of human behaviors through archetypal caricatures and in the way it constantly changes the width, depth and height of its title decor, shifting its perspective (and ours) to adjust it to each new character.
