  휴일의 마지막 날 방 안에서 소지품을 정리하고 있던 소녀는 열린 창문으로 돌 하나가 날아들어 오자 부모님 몰래 창밖으로 탈출을 감행한다. 밖으로 나간 소녀는 시간 가는 줄 모르고 친구들과 노는 데 열중한다. 영화는 친구들과의 한때를 보내는 알리샤의 모습을 그리고 있는 애니메이션으로 어린 시절 동심의 세계로 우리를 인도한다. 특히 5분 남짓 되는 이 짧은 작품에는 오후 나절의 푸른 하늘, 노을이 타는 붉은색, 해바라기와 병아리의 노란색, 그리고 노을이 진 저녁 하늘의 빛깔, 어딘가 멀리 날아가는 제비까지 알리샤의 마음을 대변하는 것 같아 애잔하면서도 마음이 따듯해지는 동화 같은 작품이다.

  On the last day of her holidays, the girl, who was organizing her belongings, escapes without her parents knowing when a stone flies through her open window. The girl, once outside, is lost in time and absorbed in playing with her friends. The movie is an animation that depicts Alicia, the protagonist, spending time with her friends, leading the audience to a world of childhood innocence. In the short, five-minute film, the clear blue of the afternoon sky, the burning red of the sunset, the bright yellow of sunflowers and little baby chicks, the colors of the splendid night sky, and even the swallows flying somewhere far away represent Alicia’s heart, giving the audience the frail and heartwarming feeling of a fairy-tale.

  For about 300 years, Yamagata people have taken advantage of the terroir of Yamagata prefecture to brew sake. Yamagata City has been blessed with high quality water from the Zao Mountains, and three sake breweries have succeeded since the Edo period. This film focuses on the traditional sake brewing process, water, rice, craftsmanship, the characteristics of each sake brewery, and the passion of the sake brewers.   우리가 흔히 ‘사케’라고 부르는 일본식 청주는 지역에 따라 맛과 형태 또한 다양하다. 일본 내 야마가타 지역 사람들은 300년 가까이 되는 오랜 시간 동안 지역적 특색을 고루 갖춘 야마가타식 사케를 꾸준히 만들어왔다. 무엇보다 야마가타는 사케를 만드는 데 중추가 되는 깨끗한 물과 잘 관리된 쌀을 얻기 쉬운 지리적 이점을 가지고 있다. 그 덕분에 에도 시대 적부터 지금까지 유구한 전통을 자랑하는 사케 제조 공장들이 야마가타에 견고히 자리할 수 있었다. 영화는 야마가타 지역의 고유한 사케 제조 방식과 더불어 그 안에서도 각각의 특색을 갖춘 개성적인 사케를 조명하고, 지역 사람들이 가지고 있는 장인정신을 사려 깊게 포착해내는 다큐멘터리다.

  Japanese rice wine, which we call Sake, varies in taste and form depending on the region it is from. People in the Yamagata region of Japan have consistently made Yamagata-style sake with local characteristics for nearly 300 years. Above all, Yamagata has the geographical advantage that it is easy to obtain clean water and well-managed rice, which is paramount in making sake. Thanks to this, sake manufacturing plants, which boast a long tradition from the Edo period to the present, were able to be firmly located in Yamagata. The movie is a documentary that sheds light on the unique way of making sake in the Yamagata area while respectfully capturing the craftsmanship of the locals.

  노란 자동차 한 대가 106번 국도에서 벗어난다. 자동차를 살피던 경찰은 트렁크 안에 피를 흘리며 죽어 있는 한 남자를 발견하고 위험한 상황에 처했음을 직감한다. 경찰은 주인공이 범인이라고 추측하지만, 그녀는 자신이 피해자임을 적극적으로 주장하며 도와달라고 부탁한다. 경찰은 규칙을 준수할 것인지, 운전자를 도울 것인지 결정을 내려야 한다. 영화는 두려움에 떨며 혼란한 모습을 보이는 마리아를 안심시키고, 그녀를 도우려 하는 경찰관의 모습을 통해 인물들의 내면을 잘 포착하고 있는 영화이다. 특히 영화는 단순한 서사 속에 또 다른 반전을 숨겨두고 있으며, 인물들의 대사와 상황 그리고 그들의 내면 심리를 카메라의 움직임을 통해 전달하고 있기에 관객들이 영화에 몰입하는 데 어렵지 않아 보인다.

  A yellow car exits Road 106. A policeman searches the car to find a dead, bleeding man in the trunk and realizes he is in a dangerous situation. The policeman suspects the protagonist is the culprit, but she actively claims that she is the victim of the situation and asks for help. The policeman has to decide whether to abide by the rules or help the driver. The movie captures the inner sides of the characters well through the appearance of the police officer who tries to help Maria, the protagonist, who is afraid and confused. In particular, the movie hides another twist in the simple narrative, and the character’s dialogue, situations, and inner psychology are conveyed through the camera's movement, making it easy for the audience to immerse themselves in the film.

  북극의 추위가 지긋지긋한 주인공이 어느 날 망원경으로 열대의 섬을 발견한다. 주인공의 손에는 마치 투석기를 연상시키는 모양의 장치가 그려진 종이가 들려 있다. 주인공은 원하는 대로 차가운 겨울을 떠나 뜨거운 여름을 향해 날아갈 수 있을까. 영화는 아기자기한 그림체와 소소한 유머가 장점인 애니메이션 작품으로 짧은 러닝타임 안에 효과적으로 웃음과 메시지를 전달한다. 영화의 메시지를 어느 곳에나 그곳의 어려움이 있기 마련이라는 교훈으로 읽지 않아야 할 것이다. 언제든 어디로든 또다시 떠날 준비가 되어 있는 주인공을 보면 슬며시 미소 지어질 것이다.

The movie's message should not be read as a lesson that there are difficulties everywhere. LGBT, 대안 가족과 인종 문제를 전면에 내세우고 있는데, 픽션과 다큐멘터리를 가볍게 오가고 독특한 화면 분할과 편집을 활용하는 등 영화의 소재에 걸맞은 자유로운 형식을 시도한다. 덕분에 정치적 메시지가 대화의 홍수 속에 쏟아짐에도 불구하고 투박함보다 신선함이 앞선다. 인상적인 이미지와 개성 넘치는 인물들이 눈길을 끄는데, 그중에서도 특히 주인공의 매력이 돋보이는 작품이다.

  The film begins with the captivating image of a woman swimming in the sea and unfolds as the main character, who seems happy in the sea, is kicked out of her residence and arrives at her friend’s house. LGBT, alternative family, and race issues are at the forefront. At the same time, they attempt a free format suitable for the film’s material, such as lightly moving between fiction and documentary and utilizing unique screen division and editing. Due to this, although political rhetoric is poured out along with a deluge of dialogue, freshness precedes uncouthness. Impressive images and unique characters draw the eyes, but among all that, the main character’s charm is the star of the film.
