  1992년부터 1993년까지 인도에서 일어난 바브리 모스크 파괴와 뭄바이 폭동사건의 여파로 인도-방글라데시 국경 근처 웨스트벵갈의 외진 마을에서도 폭력이 되풀이되고 있다. 바로 이 지역에서, 전쟁 중인 두 종교집단에 속한 두 소년의 우정에 관한 이야기가 시작된다. 팔라쉬는 힌두 브라만교 집안의 아들, 사피쿨은 이슬람교도 직공의 아들이다. 팔라쉬와 사피쿨의 순수함은 자연에서부터 얻어지는 것이다. 마을의 푸르름, 강, 넓게 펼쳐진 논밭에 두 소년의 목소리와 웃음소리가 천진난만하게 울려 퍼진다. 하지만 잔혹한 운명은 조용하게 다가와 이 둘의 우정을 기어코 갈라 놓으려 한다.

  
  

   

  
  

  The aftermath of Babri Mosque demolition and the Bombay blasts in India, 1992-'93, found its violent echoes even in a remote village of West Bengal adjacent to the India-Bangladesh border where the story begins to unfold. A story of friendship between two little boys belonging to two warring religious communities. Palash is the son of a Hindu Brahmin while Safikul is the son of a Muslim weaver. The innocence of Palash and Safikul receives its sustenance from nature. The greenery of the village, the river and the vast stretch of paddy fields playfully rebound the echoes of the voices and the laughter of the boys. However, relentless fate arrives quietly, when separation becomes the destiny of their friendship.
