• 12살 소녀 플로렌스는 진정한 여성이 되기 위해 모계사회 가족의 전통 통과의례인 사슴사냥에 처음으로 나선다. 플로렌스 집안에는 수 대에 걸친 전통이 하나 내려오는데, 그것은 성인이 되는 통과의례로 사슴을 죽이는 것이다. 총을 쏘고 사슴 가죽 벗기는 일을 배우면서 플로렌스는 삶과 죽음에 대해 깊게 성찰하게 된다. 하지만 사냥에 나선 플로렌스가 자신이 혼자임을 깨달았을 때, 기대는 혼란으로 바뀌고, 소녀는 자신의 결정을 감당하기 위해 있는 힘을 다해 어른이 된다는 사실을 받아들여야만 한다.

  
  

   

  
  

  On the cusp of womanhood, 12-year-old Florence goes on her first deer hunt, a traditional rite-of-passage in her matriarchal family. A tradition passed down through many generations of women in her family, the act of killing a deer symbolizes the transition into adulthood. As Florence is taught how to shoot a gun and skin a deer, she gains a deeper understanding of life and death. When Florence finds herself alone during a hunt, however, expectations dissolve into chaos as she must rely on her instinct and training to follow through with her decisions, pull herself together, and face becoming an adult.

  칼 제이콥은 미네소타 출신 배우이자 영화감독으로 현재 미네소타와 뉴욕에서 활동하고 있다. 공동연출 데뷔작인 <폴리웡>은 2013년 LA영화제에서 소개된 바 있다. 직접 제작하고 출연한 <오너 투켈의 애플소스>는 2015년 트라이베카 영화제에서 첫 상영됐다. <그해 겨울, 소녀와 사슴>으로 제롬재단으로부터 신인예술가상을 수상했다.

  
  

   

  
  

  Karl Jacob is an actor and filmmaker from northern Minnesota who currently splits his time between Minnesota and NYC.
