  '호프'(Hope, 희망)'이라는 이름을 지닌 젊은 여인이 캄보디아에 도착했다. 누군가를 기다리던 그녀는 자신을 찾아온 나이 든 남성, 어린 꼬마와 함께 차를 타고 길을 떠난다. 그러나 차는 고장 나고, 숙소는 차마 잠을 청하기 어려운 수준이다. 말도 잘 통하지 않는 답답하고 고된 상황. 그녀는 무엇을 위해 이곳에 왔을까? 영화는 호프의 현재 시점인 2000년대와 함께 낭만적이고 평화로웠던 1960년대, 크메르루주 치하의 엄혹했던 1970년대, 세 시기를 오가며 진행된다. 이를 엮어내는 것은 가족, 연인, 친구 간의 사랑과 우정, 그리고 이들의 마음을 담아내고 어루만져주는 음악이다. 특히 "크메르 음악의 왕"이라 불린 당대 최고의 싱어송라이터 씬 씨사뭇의 <쩜빠 밧탐방>은 이 작품의 백미다. 케일리 쏘와 쏙 위살의 공동 연출작으로 올해 캄보디아 관객들에게 가장 사랑받은 작품.

  
  

   

  
  

  A young woman named Hope arrives in Cambodia. She takes to traveling with an older man and a boy who approach her while she waits for someone, but their car breaks down and accommodations are uncomfortable. Hope is frustrated by the language barrier and faces a painful situation. What brought her here? In the Life of Music details three separate periods: Hope's current life in the 2000s, the romantic and peaceful 1960s, and the harsh 1970s under the Khmer Rouge regime. Across time, music captures the affection between family, lovers, and friends. Champa Battambang, a song by "the King of Khmer Music" Sinn Sisamouth, is a particular source of beauty. Co-directed by Caylee So and Sok Visal, this was Cambodia's best loved film of the year.
